The Yacht
The Candidate Specification
We are recruiting for a hands-on Captain to join a private motor yacht based predominantly in Palma. This is a permanent, non-rotational position for an experienced Captain or a strong First Mate / Chief Officer ready to step up, with the yacht operating a single or dual-season programme depending on the owner’s plans.
The yacht operates closely alongside a sailing yacht under the same ownership, with both vessels working together throughout the programme. A sailing background would therefore be highly beneficial, although not essential. The successful candidate may also have opportunities to get involved with the sailing programme during regattas.
Candidates must hold an MCA Master 3000GT and have strong seamanship and confidence in command. Experience with Furuno ECDIS is required, alongside good IT skills and a solid understanding of engineering and onboard systems. For candidates stepping up into their first Captain position, significant drive time on a similar-sized vessel and proven longevity at First Mate or Chief Officer level would be preferred.
We are looking for someone who leads from the front and is comfortable being actively involved across yacht and guest operations. The right candidate will be approachable and confident managing a team without micromanaging, with the ability to motivate crew and maintain a positive working environment. The role will also involve overseeing technical management, maintenance planning, budgets and compliance with flag state, class and ISM requirements.
